Hi to all,
I need to tell you of my exciting turkey hunt of 4 days culminating yesterday at 4:35 when I bagged a big one, 24 # Tom!!He has a 9 1/2 in beard for those of you interested in knowing.
I had not shot a gun in 45 years and then just a 22. Hank set me up for practice last week, shooting the 22 19 times and the shotgun(which I used for hunting) 2 times. I hit my target 19 out of 21 times. I certainly surprised myself and Hank!!
Sunday was our longest day in the blind-9 1/2 hrs watching a strutting tom about 6 hours of that . He was courting a maiden who really wanted nothing to do with him. It was actually sad, even I felt sorry for the dude!
I did get 1 shot off but missed the big boy. Monday we saw nothing of this pair. We thought they went off to another land, or he had a heart attack!
Tues we went out in the am for 3 hours not seeing anything except the male pheasant that Hank was able to call in. We went home, rested ate a big meal and went out a 4 pm. When we got out there, a male was present. WE were able to sneak into the blind withoouthim seeing us! He was about 150 yards away I'd say. Hank started calling him, a hen appeared which is not good! Hank kept up the tantalizing call. AT 4;30 pm he was getting really close and did get in line with my shot availability. I put the bead on , Hank kept saying : shoot him! I said, I have to wait til I can hit him and POW, I shot and he flip over! I was as surprised as anyone reading this. It was great fun.
I reccomend it for fun and spousal bonding. We both enjoyed it greatly!! He was a beaut abd not the one we had seen Sunday.
